Father’s day rhapsody (Poem: Jacob Thomas Vilayil)
A day to reckon. A day to remember
Father-what thy name extolls.
Is that the grace or the strength?
Or the words of wisdom you cherished?
Motivating -my frailties you ignore
Childish follies and whimsies
You ignore, beckon my strength
Harness, channels them in stride
Hold my hand, when I falls
Stumble, I may, you make me walk
Levels my gait, levels my life- you say
Stand straight, talk straight, strengthens
Character effuses conduct, lightens the face.
Storms gather, thunder, lightning strikes
Terror, thy bosom- fortress I seek shelter
Age- a life progression, time’s gift
Aged, you grew in silence, solid
Tookthat charm, toils of the day
Worn you out, I marvel, seek solace
Furrows of anguish, thy face extend
That look, a glance, a stare laid bare
My innermost thoughts-read with care
Analyze- found lacking radiates thy anguish.
Father, kindness thy virtue, piety the mantra
But, mortal thoughts lines my heart
Ages to come, pity my soul,
Thoughts wasteful, none so any good
Summon my strength to honor thee!
Thy son prodigal at best now reformed
Lessons learned, your words hold dear
Your selflessness, sacrifice- lifelong mission
Transform the world for better tomorrow
None transformed, thy son turned radical
You gave profusely, showered thy love
Now, just a day to reminiscence thy life!
A day, years, ages and eons won’t suffice
For being my father tears of gratitude I offer
Prodigal son has returned, you may not suffer.
Forgive me father, I return, thy feet I proffer.
