Peace on Earth (Father Joseph Varghese)
2,000 years ago an angel announced the birth of Christ...and immediately a heavenly host appeared with the angel and ended their visitation with the words, "Peace on earth, good will to all upon whom God's favor rests." Peace on earth...those are beautiful words...words we would all love to have come true. But today, where is that peace on earth? Where can we find it?
The angels announced "Peace on earth"...but those words didn't stop the bombs that were dropped on Iraq or in Syria. More future conflicts are in the horizon. Today the United Nations imposed new sanctions against North Korea and yesterday the same Body condemned the United States on the policy adopted about Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. We can see conflict in and out , far and around us. We knew from history that the message of 'Peace didn't stop people from being put in concentration camps in WWII...or others from being imprisoned and brutalized in Vietnam...Iraq...etc. Christians and Yezidis were persecuted in Iraq. In Myanmar, Rohingya minorities are being targeted and persecuted by the majority Buddhists. Where is this peace?
I've seen the horrors of religious persecution in Egypt, in Iraq and in Syria. Religious persecution is happening in Pakistan, India and in Indonesia. And like many around the world I wonder...where is this peace on earth?
God’s peace in Christ is offered to the world. But only the “sons of peace” able to capture and receive it. How do you know if you are a “son of peace”? How do you know if you are part of the angels’ promise, “Peace among those with whom he is pleased!”? Every religion is teaching this mantra. Become 'son of peace' for the sake of humanity. Respect and cherish others and their believes. When every religion teach and profess peace within, there will be peace. When the Religions embraced each other, then only we can have a world of peace. Let it start from the individual peace makers. We can be 'sons of peace'.
Christmas is a time of hope, despite the wars and conflicts around us. and despite the historical record: "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light."Christmas is a time of celebration: "I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people." And Christmas is a time of peace: "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace for everyone irrespective of their believes.

ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിന് ഒരു ഏകീകൃത ദൈവശാസ്ത്രം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത് കോൺസ്റ്റന്റയിൻചക്രവർത്തിയുടെ കാലത്താണ്. അതു വരെ പലരും അവർക്ക് അനിയോജ്യമായ നിലയിൽ യേശുവിനെ വ്യാഖ്യാനിക്കുകയും വിശദീകരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു പോന്നു.പലതരത്തിലുള്ള ക്രിസ്തുമത വിശ്വാസങ്ങൾ ഒരേ സമയത്തു നിലനിന്നിരുന്നു.അവർ തമ്മിൽ പരസ്പരം ഏറ്റുമുട്ടിക്കൊണ്ടുമിരുന്നു, കോൺസ്റ്റന്റയ്ൻ ചക്രവർത്തിയ്ക്ക് ഇതിന്റെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ അർഥം മനസിലായി. ഇവർ ഇങ്ങനെ കലഹിച്ചാൽ റോമാ സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന് രാഷ്ട്രീയ അസ്ഥിരത ഉണ്ടാകുമെന്ന് മനസിലാക്കിയ അദ്ധേഹം അത് അവസാനിപ്പിക്കാൻ രണ്ടു കുട്ടരെയും വിളിച്ചു വരുത്തി. ഒരു ഒത്തുതീർപ്പ് ഉണ്ടാക്കി.ആ സമ്മേളനമാണ് ചരിത്ര പ്രസിദ്ധമായ നിഖ്യാ സൂനഹദോസ്.അവിടെ വച്ചാണ് ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികൾക്ക് ഒരു ഏകീകൃത ദൈവശാസ്ത്രം ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത്.സി.ഇ.325-ൽ കോൺസ്റ്റന്റയ്ൻ ചക്രവർത്തിയുടെ അദ്ധ്യക്ഷതയിൽ ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിലെ ദൈവത്തെപ്പറ്റി ബിഷപ്പുമാരും സഭാ നേതാക്കളും ഒരു ധാരണയിൽ എത്തുന്നത്. കഥകൾക്ക് അടുക്കും ചിട്ടയും ഏകീകൃത രൂപങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നതും അങ്ങനെയാണ്.ഈ ഒത്തുതീർപ്പ് അംഗീകരിക്കാതിരുന്നവരെ ചക്രവർത്തി നാടുകടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.. ചുരുക്കി പറഞ്ഞാൽ ആധുനിക ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാപകൻ കോൺസ്റ്റന്റ്യൻ ചക്രവർത്തി തന്നെയെന്നു സാരം.,
യുദ്ധത്തിനിടയിലാണ് കോൺസ്റ്റന്റയിൽ ചക്രവർത്തിയ്ക്ക് ക്രിസ്തു ദർശനമുണ്ടായതെന്നാണ് കഥ..! യുദ്ധം ചെയ്യുക എന്നാണത്രെ യേശു സ്വപ്നത്തിൽ ചക്രവർത്തിയോട് ആഹ്വാനം ചെയ്തത്.അങ്ങനെ" യേശുവിന്റെ പിൻതുണയോടെ "ചക്രവർത്തി യുദ്ധം ചെയ്ത് വിജയിച്ചു.അതോടു കൂടി യേശുവിന്റെ മതം യൂറോപ്പിൽ മുഴുവൻ വ്യാപിച്ചു.
യുറോപ്പിന്റെ ദൈവ സങ്കൽപ്പങ്ങളെയെല്ലാം തുടച്ചു നീക്കിക്കൊണ്ട് യേശുവെന്ന ദൈവ സങ്കൽപ്പം യൂറോപ്പിനെ മൂടി. മറ്റു മതങ്ങൾക്കെതിരായ പടയോട്ടത്തിൽ ക്രിസ്തുമതം പടർന്ന് പന്തലിച്ചു.പുതിയ ഭൂമികകൾ ആ മതം സ്വന്തം ദൈവരാജ്യത്തോട് ചേർപ്പിച്ചു.അതിൽ സഹനമുണ്ട്. നരഹത്യകൾ കൊണ്ട് പങ്കിലമാക്കപ്പെട്ട രക്ത ഭുമികകളുണ്ട്, ശിർചേഛദം ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ട ഉടലുകളുണ്ട്. സാമ്രാജ്യത്വ ചക്രവർത്തിമാരുടെ വിശ്വാസ പ്രമാണങ്ങളുടെ സ്നാനപ്പെടലുകൾ ഉണ്ട്.അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിൽ എല്ലാ ഭാവങ്ങളും ഉണ്ട്., കരുണയും വാളും ഉണ്ട് ലാളിത്യവും അരമനകളുടെ (രാജസഭയുടെ ) ആഡംബരങ്ങളുണ്ട് അനേകം ദൈവങ്ങളുണ്ടായിരുന്ന റോമൻ സമൂഹത്തെ യേശുവിന്റെ വിമോചന ഭാവമാണ് കീഴടക്കിയത്.ക്രമേണ യേശു യൂറോപ്പിലെ വെള്ളക്കാരുടെ ദൈവമായി മാറി. യേശുവിന്റെ രൂപത്തിന് അങ്ങനെയാണ് വെള്ളക്കാരന്റെ നിറവും ഭാവവും ഉണ്ടാകുന്നത്.
സൂര്യ ആരാധനക്കാരനായിരുന്ന കോൺസ്റ്റന്റയിൻ ചക്രവർത്തി രാഷ്ടീയ നേട്ടത്തിന് വേണ്ടി പിന്നീടും ക്രിസ്തുമതം വേണ്ട പോലെ ഉപയോഗിച്ചു.സാമ്രാജ്യത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥിരതയ്ക്ക് ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളുടെ പിൻതുണ വേണമെന്ന് അയാൾക്ക് നന്നായി അറിയാമായിരുന്നു. പിന്നീട് ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തെ ഔദ്യോഗിക മതമാക്കി മാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്തു.സൈന്നികനായി തുടങ്ങി യുദ്ധത്തിലൂടെ ചക്രവർത്തിയായി മാറിയ കോൺസ്റ്റന്റയ്ൻ ഒരു സാത്വികൻ ഒന്നുമായിരുന്നില്ല. ക്രൂരതയ്ക്ക് പ്രസിദ്ധനായിരുന്നു അയാൾ. യുദ്ധ തടവുകാരെ വന്യ ജീവികൾക്ക് ഭക്ഷിക്കാൻ കൊടുക്കുകയായിരുന്നു പ്രധാന വിനോദം, മുത്തമകനേയും. രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഭാര്യയെയും, സംശയത്തിന്റെ പേരിൽ കൊല ചെയ്തു.അതായത് ഇന്നത്തെ ക്രിസ്തുമതത്തിന്റെ ചരിത്രം യേശുവിൽ അല്ല തുടങ്ങുന്നത് മറിച്ച് ക്രൂരനായ ഭരണാധികാരിയുടെ കുടിലമായ രാഷ്ട്രീയ തലച്ചോറിൽ നിന്നാണന്ന് വ്യക്തം.. അതാണ് ഇന്നും സഭ രാഷ്ട്രീയത്തിനും., മുതലാളിത്ത ദാസ്യത്തിനും വൻ പിൽ തുണ നൽകി വരുന്നതും.,
