ഒരാഴ്ചയ്ക്കുള്ളില്‍ അമേരിക്കയിലെ എല്ലാ ജനപ്രതിനിധി സീറ്റിലേയ്ക്കും മൂന്നിലൊന്ന് സെനറ്റ് സീറ്റിലേയ്ക്കും തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടക്കുകയാണ്. സാധാരണ വോട്ടര്‍മാര്‍ പോളിങ് സ്റ്റേഷനിലേയ്ക്ക് പോകുമ്പോള്‍ അവരുടെ മനസില്‍ തങ്ങള്‍ വോട്ട് ചെയ്യാന്‍ പോകുന്ന സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥികളുടെ പേരുകളാണ് ഉണ്ടാവുക. എന്നാല്‍ ഈ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ അവരുടെയെല്ലാം മനസ്സില്‍ നിറഞ്ഞ് നില്‍ക്കുന്നത് അമേരിക്കന്‍ പ്രസിഡന്റ് ഡോണള്‍ഡ് ട്രംപിന്റെ പേരാണ്. തങ്ങള്‍ വോട്ട് ചെയ്യുന്നത് ആര്‍ക്കായിരിക്കണം എന്ന് തീരുമാനിക്കുന്നതു പോലും ട്രംപിനെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നുവോ വെറുക്കുന്നുവോ എന്നതിനെ ആശ്രയിച്ചാണെന്ന് രാഷ്ട്രീയ നിരീക്ഷകര്‍ പറയുന്നു. ഇക്കാര്യത്തില്‍ ട്രംപും വോട്ടര്‍മാര്‍ക്കൊപ്പമാണ്. തന്റെ ഭരണത്തിന്റെ വിലയിരുത്തല്‍ ആയിരിക്കും ഈ ജനവിധി എന്ന് ട്രംപ് തുറന്ന് സമ്മതിച്ചു. ട്രംപിന്റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളില്‍ തൃപ്തരാണെന്ന് അഭിപ്രായ സര്‍വേയില്‍ പറഞ്ഞവര്‍ 43% ആണ്. 54% അതൃപ്തി രേഖപ്പെടുത്തി. ഇത് കഴിഞ്ഞ ഓഗസ്റ്റിനെക്കാള്‍ കൂടുതലാണ്. അന്ന് തൃപ്തി ഉണ്ടെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞവര്‍ 40%വും അതൃപ്തര്‍ 56% വും ആയിരുന്നു.
ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ ഒരു പക്ഷെ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥികള്‍ നേരിട്ടും പിഎസി (പൊളിറ്റിക്കല്‍ ആക്ഷന്‍ കമ്മിറ്റി) വഴിയും ഏറ്റവും കൂടുതല്‍ പ്രചരണ ധനസമാഹരണം നടത്തിയ തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് ഇതായിരിക്കും. റിപ്പബ്ലിക്കന്‍ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥി സെനറ്റര്‍ ട്രെഡ് ക്രൂസും ഡെമോക്രാറ്റിക് സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥി ജനപ്രതിനിധി ബീറ്റോ ഒ റൗര്‍കെയും ഏറ്റുമുട്ടുന്ന ടെക്‌സസ് സെനറ്റ് മത്സരം 129 മില്യന്‍ ഡോളര്‍ സമാഹരണത്തോടെ പുതിയ ചരിത്രം എഴുതിച്ചേര്‍ത്തു. പണത്തിന്റെ കുത്തൊഴുക്കില്‍ ഒരു സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥി ഏറെ യാര്‍ഡ് സൈനുകള്‍ വച്ചും ഡോര്‍ ടു ഡോര്‍ പ്രചരണവും നടത്തുവാന്‍ പ്രേരകമായി. ഒരു സെനറ്റ് മത്സരത്തില്‍ ജനങ്ങളുടെ വാതിലില്‍ മുട്ടി വോട്ട് അഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥിച്ച് കണ്ടത് ആദ്യമായാണ് എന്നു ചിലര്‍ പ്രതികരിച്ചു.
വര്‍ഗീയ ബന്ധങ്ങള്‍ പൂര്‍വസ്ഥിതിയിലാകാന്‍ അടുത്ത കാലത്ത് സാധ്യതയില്ലെന്ന് സാമൂഹ്യ നിരീക്ഷകര്‍ അഭിപ്രായപ്പെടുന്നു. തീവ്ര ധുവീകരണത്തിനും ബന്ധങ്ങളുടെ തകര്‍ച്ചയ്ക്കും ആരാണ് കാരണക്കാര്‍ എന്ന് പറയാനാവില്ല. പക്ഷെ വലിയ നഷ്ടം സംഭവിച്ചു. ഫ്‌ലോറിഡ ഗവര്‍ണര്‍ മത്സരത്തില്‍ വര്‍ഗീയത ഒരു വലിയ പങ്ക് വഹിക്കുന്നു എന്നാണ് റിപ്പോര്‍ട്ടുകള്‍. ഒരു മുന്‍ കോണ്‍ഗ്രസംഗമായ റിപ്പബ്ലിക്കന്‍ സ്ഥാനാര്‍ത്ഥി റോണ്‍ ഡി സാന്റിസിന്റെ അനുയായികള്‍ നടത്തിയ പരാമര്‍ശങ്ങള്‍ പ്രതിഷേധാര്‍ഹമാ ണെന്ന് ആരോപിച്ച് ഡെമോക്രാറ്റിക് പ്രതിയോഗിയും ടാലഹാസി മേയറുമായ ആന്‍ഡ്രൂ ഗില്ലമിന്റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകര്‍ മുന്നോട്ടു വന്നു. ഇവരും പ്രതിഷേധാര്‍ഹമായ പരാമര്‍ശങ്ങള്‍ നടത്തി എന്നാരോപണമുണ്ട്. ഡിസാന്റിസ് വര്‍ഗീയ വാദിയാണെന്ന് ഗില്ലം പറയാതെ പറഞ്ഞു.
