വെള്ളക്കാരങ്ങേയ്ക്കന്നുതന്ന ക്ലേശങ്ങള്‍ പച്ച-
വെള്ളം പോലല്ലോ പാനംചെയ്തതിയടിയര്‍ക്കായ്!
ഉപ്പുസത്യാഗ്രഹവും, ജാലിയന്‍വാലാബാഗും.
ഒപ്പത്തിനൊപ്പം ദണ്ഡിയാത്രയുമോര്‍ക്കും ലോകം!

മരിച്ചു ജനലക്ഷമെങ്കിലും ജനരോഷം
മരച്ചില്ലതുകണ്ടു പകച്ചു വെള്ളക്കാരും!
രണ്ടാംമഹായുദ്ധത്തില്‍ തകര്‍ന്നു വന്‍ശക്തികള്‍
ലണ്ടനും ഭാരതത്തില്‍ തുടരാന്‍ പ്രയാസമായി

സമരം കൊടുമ്പിരിക്കൊണ്ടപ്പോള്‍ ഗതിമുട്ടി
സന്മസ്സോടല്ലേല്ലും വെള്ളക്കാര്‍ വിടചൊല്ലി!
ആഗസ്റ്റു പതിനഞ്ച്! ഭാരതം സ്വതന്ത്രയായ്
ആഗതമായി നവജീവനുമെല്ലാരിലും!”

ദൃഢനിശ്ചയം, ധൈര്യം, സഹനശക്തി, സത്യ-
സന്ധതയഹിംസയുമാക്കിനാന്‍ തന്നായുധം!
വെടിയുണ്ടകള്‍ ചീറിത്തുളച്ചുകയറി, നെഞ്ചില്‍
വെടിഞ്ഞു രാഷ്ട്രപിതാ, തളരാതിഹലോകം!

ഇന്നു നാം സ്വദിയ്ക്കൂമീ സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യപഞ്ചാമൃതം
ജനലക്ഷങ്ങള്‍ രക്തസാക്ഷികളായിട്ടല്ലേ?
നിവര്‍ന്നു പൊങ്ങിപ്പൊങ്ങി പാറട്ടെ, നമ്മള്‍ വാഴ്ത്തും
ത്രിവര്‍ണപതാകയീ ഭാരതമണ്ണില്‍ നിണാള്‍!

Poet Shankar belongs to Thodupuzha.He is a post graduate in Commerce from Kerala University.He is now living in Mumbai with his family for  the last 40 years.He has a daughter and a son both settled in life.He retired as Credit Manager from Union Bank Of India. Now he is a full time poet and journalist and a freelance writer too.He has released 5 anthologies of poems(4 Malayalam and 1 English)and 5 popular soulful music albums with his lyrics . Besides,he contributes poems and articles on social subjects in English and Malayalam to about 10--12 magazines in Mumbai Kerala and outside.Currently his article "Women in America and India" a serial travelogue cum comparative study is going on in JWALA a popular family Magazine with wider readership,edited and published by Mr.Gopi Nair from Mumbai.His poem Gandharva Janmam (published in 12 magazines)on the life of Padmashree Dr K J Yesudas was sung by him at Dasettan@ 50 featured by Asianet in February 2012 which became a great sensation among Malayalees all over the world.This poem can be heard in dasettan@50 in You Tube link -part -6 -of 26-2-12 -as "thanks giving poem".
