Thank you for that brilliant article. Most of the articles are part of the problem and not a solution. But through the title itself, the author is suggesting that there are solutions for problems and trying to be part of the solution. I would like to make few observations and rest my comment. It seems like women take more responsibility and make most of the sacrifices for the family in all time. And, majority of men are power hungry and look for every venue for projecting it. When Christian missionaries came to Kerala in 16th century (those missionaries were committed not like the one we see around us nowadays.) our women were willing to capture the opportunity to educate themselves and bring the family out of the hardship. Majority of the Nurses came to this country really deserve salute from all of us. While they were working hard and focusing on family front majority of the men were happy with odd jobs that they were doing. Majority of them never wanted to go to school and do the same thing their wives did for the family. Men were lost in the gutters of Malayaalee social life molded by Churches and associations; a place to bolster the ego and low self-esteem. I don’t think Malayaalees in Kerala and outside Kerala learned anything from the past history and do the same thing the men were doing in 16th century. Nothing has changed for men in 21st century. In Kerala most of the men are drunk and sleeping in the street. When they come home, they abuse the hardworking wife who struggle to keep the family together and children. In USA most of the men are busy with churches, temples, associations and organizations which don’t do any good to anyone. Most of them are hypocrites. As we hear all the time, united we stand and divided we fall, if husbands and wives are not willing to take responsibility by staying together, they are going to fall apart. And, this is applicable to all classes of the society. The solution for resolving any issues in life is to stay together in the midst of tempest in life with respect and love to each other. Once again I salute all the educated and hardworking women who really strive to keep the family together. Kudos to the writer for the article.

This is not only negative but an uneducated statement. Look at the number of divorces going on. Why an educated woman has to lead the life of a slave dominated by her husband. The first generation Malayalees:  Husbands & wives are fighting like cats and dogs. The 2nd generation don't want  a life of living hell. When the population increases, the nature has its own ways of controlling it. Gay, Lesbian; late marriage, less kids; these are nature's way.
Each and every individual has the right to choose whether they want to marry or not. It is not right to call them ill-Oman-
Remember the young generation can say men above 60 are ദുസ്സകുനം

Minority people always wanted to be part of mainstream ideology and life culture. Only solution is hard and that is uphold the minority principle and life culture with the common American multi life culture. I am living example. Born and brought-up from kerala , arrainged marriage and my wife second generation born and brought-up girl from new York and now we have three kids...so its possible to uphold our identity in these environment..Do you suggest me indian born malayalee and American born malayalee wife to abandon our third generation malayalee-american malaylee -kids to these multi culture realism or fight to keep up with there malayalee identity .

Dr. Thomas Palackal has pointed out a serious crisis that the American malayalees are facing today. Although we are born and brought up in India, our children are American citizens. Most of them have no idea about our culture, even if they know it, they don\\\'t care for that. No one can blame them, because they are born and brought up here. The cultural conflict is the actual problem here. Most of the older generation are adamant and they are not willing to change their mentality. The parents are responsible to raise their children in such a way that they follow at least some of the Indian culture. If the children want to marry someone they like, allow them to do so, otherwise they will never get married. This is the reason why we see hundreds of young girls and boys staying as single and this causes heart attacks and other major diseases to parents. Unless the attitude of people changes this crisis will prevail in our society!

The issues involved here are complex, and a simple answer is not appropriate as many variables are involved. A discussion at a broader scale may be considered.

It looks like our children are scared to get in to marriage relationships. The family atmosphere they grew up or the happenings around them must be a factor in this attitude. I believe a strong faith in God can help alleviate the fear. My, parents, they didn't see each other before marriage. This was not the Biblical time when Abraham sent his servant to look for a girl for his son Issac. In Christian arranged marriages, it is the faith of parents that God will help them find the right choice for their children as it was the faith of Abraham. It is a time tested method. It is not all bed of roses.  But the experiences a person goes through, whatever those experiences, can make the person a stronger person. We need to talk to the children to take the fear away from their minds. Your children are the rewards in life from God that keep your memory alive. If you do not marry you go without reward for your hard work here.
