When the leadership has no vision, the people perish. People come to Onam celebrations not to eat ‘Onam sadya’ or to watch dance and mimicry or to see the organizers or their dress and pomp. The most important item in there is the Onam message that people take with them. The strength of the community is in the unity of the community. So the message must be able to inspire people to work together. Ramachandran Thekkedathu as the previous Vice-chancellor of Cochin University is qualified to speak. But he does not know the hopes, aspirations and dreams of the people living here. For that political leaders here are the best to give message. It is pathetic that our political leaders in our community had to stand in line to get the entry ticket and nobody even recognized their names.
It is the same forces that divided FOKANA that is playing politics here. They won’t let a MAGH election to happen, and from behind the scene pull strings, and fill the board with their supporters that have no vision about the community, and they play such dirty politics for them. A few among the Board members are trustworthy. But they will not be allowed to make decisions. Some of the people who stand with them has an affinity for alcoholic drinks and they provide this to them. A person in this group once made a speech addressing a big convention, and said, “panam illathavan pinam”. What an inspiring message to strengthen a community! “avaru vannu vadichu nakkiyittu pokatte” This is the words of another person in the group about one of our community groups that he consider as opposition. How can such people give leadership to a community? MAGH needs election every year to elect qualified candidates to sit on the board. The excuse they gave for not conducting the election is that it cost too much money. Hope things will get corrected soon.
My dear Mathulla Chetta, & Other “Vappa” whoever it. Do not treat Indian/Kerala politicians or priests differently. They must stand on line and buy tickets. There are so many politicians, political office holders and priests and we cannot allow anybody freely. Treat everybody equally. This is democratic age. We cannot invite all political leaders, FOMA/Fokana/World Malayalee so called worthless leaders on stage. The stage will collapse and fall. Probably we see more people on stage than the auditorium.
Some are permanent leaders. Some are not democratically elected leaders. If we give chances we have to give chances to all the political power holders, competing political candidates from democrats, republicans, independents regardless of national origin, or color not just Keralites. We are in USA and governed by USA rules, not governed by Nainan Mathulla or Vaapa rules. Now a days I see in all the stages this county judge, council man, and many Malayalee candidates come to the stage and say the same thing , repeating every thing and wasting our time. That must be stopped. This time Magh Onam stopped that tradition and good. Some particular lady always come to stage, light lamp, boast herself all the time, that also has stopped. Good – MAGh. But the chief Guest, board of trustee speech all was not to the occasion and not to the standard. There must be good eloquent speakers from the ordinary people, not from the priests or so called fokana/foma/world malayale etc.
We do not need the same MCS year after year and same dances from the same dance schools. Give chances to other for MC chances. There are so many qualified better people. Mathulla chetta, you conduct onam in your house and invite your political leaders to light up the lamp and to make hopeless, boring political speeches to your choice.
These comments remind me of a person who once became mayor after an election campaign. He saw others becoming mayors and he also wanted to become a mayor. Once he became the mayor, he does not know what to do as a mayor as he does not know what a mayor is supposed to do. He has no vision for the people. He became mayor for his own name and prestige.
This is a competitive society and as Board members, each must have a vision for the people of the area to make them stronger. Most of these people have no vision but some political interests. Those who write comments here anonymous if they have courage reveal themselves and stand for election next time and see if people will vote for them or support such ideas.
The political leaders here mentioned, they are leaders in our community. When there is a problem in the community we approach the leaders. These comment writers do they have the power to solve any problem our community might face such as law and order or other issues? You think all are equal? It is easy to write such comments hiding in the dark. In your own home all are equal? As Dad or Mom if you do not get the respect you deserve, you will ignore it? All make mistake. So if it was a mistake, admit it and try not to repeat it.
Some people playing politics here, they want people from their own group on the stage and controlling things. If there is an election, they can’t manipulate things as people will only vote for qualified candidates.
Houston Thomas
Anyhow, by now, readers must have an idea what is going on in MAGH. Just as a group of people have not much chance to come to leadership positions through election as they are a minority here and, they did not build good relations with people here. So, they used the divide and rule strategy to come to power. They used the same strategy to divide FOKANA. Now they are in leadership positions in both FOMAA and FOKANA. The same strategy they are following here to come to leadership. If they stand for election they have no chance to win as they did not build good relationship with others. So they work to avoid election at any cost, and fill Board with people from their group, who has no chance to win an election as they are unknowns in the community or fill with people (vaalaattikal) as they have an affinity for alcohol that they provide. There are some in their group that built good relationship with others, and if he/she stands for election, sure will win. Others use the divide and rule strategy to rule others. They think nobody is watching, just as the cat drinks milk closing its eye.
