A War Without Weapons!!! (Ann Mariya K.P)

2020 marked the beginning of a new decade! People feeling grateful to witness this new beginning. Some decided to change and the rest to bring about a change in the lives of others. Young kiddos eagerly waiting to complete their schooling this decade, thinking that growing up is fun..... Enthusiastic youths waiting to see what life was going to offer them this decade..... Mommies and Daddies building up hopes about what their child is going to grow up to become....Grandparents wishing to spend the autumn of their life with their children and grandchildren.....This was it....HOPE....Even in their busiest schedule, humans never forgot to build hopes. Humans resided on this earth 'cause of this hope. Hope-that everything is going to be alright....Hope-that one day, at least one day everything is going to happen well.....Hope-that one day I can spend quality time with my family.

I never understood how two individuals of the same species, same genus can turn against each other in wars. It was about ME and only ME .Nobody cared about others. People loved money more than humans. They loved power. They loved being praised always. They always loved to be at the top most level than anybody else. Yeah! It is true, only then there is an urge to live. Only if there is something to achieve in your life, then that is where you find your purpose of living. But above all this there is this most important thing, “that your excellence should not be at the cost of other’s lives”! 'Cause there are many who struggle to just keep their life moving and suppressing them is not your success but the greatest failure you can ever have.

Life was smooth until there came a time when humans had to hold each other’s hands [not literally though]. The new decade called for a war!!! Between states??? Or nations?? ? Or aliens???

Not at all! This war neither used weapons nor nuclear bombs. Then how is that a war? Of course it is! It may sound very trivial but it is huge, a really huge war. It is a war between the so claimed to be “the most intelligent species" on the planet-the Homo Sapiens and a very tiny little organism of size not visible to the naked human eye-the Viruses. Yes, it is a fight with an invisible world, an enormously huge invisible world. Seems strange isn’t it? How can something so huge be not visible to the human eye?? We could see them though, but only that it took too much of our efforts.

So let me officially introduce all of you to our opponent in the war-the CORONA VIRUS!!!

WOW! The name seems beautiful! Isn’t it? Corona, which means crown, has done its best to conquer this world, what no king or any ruler could do. It taught us how starting bit by bit you can achieve the whole earth!

The virus which is believed to have started from a small market in a country spread across the whole world, covering nations and became so famous that even a small child knows about it. The virus wanted to know us more and live with us and so it got into the humans. So what dear virus? You could have stayed in us without harming us like one of your friend Rhino viruses. They come, stay with us for some time and then goes back and when they start missing us, they just pay a visit again. But you, dear Corona, you started harming us. You started taking away what we liked the most-OUR LIVES! And that we could not take. So we started doing all that we could! We distanced ourselves from our dear ones. We even postponed our exams. Our doctors and nurses started working for more hours. All the companies, both big and small, we shut them all down. Our countries are facing their biggest losses. Tourist places, wonders of the world, beaches, museums, malls and even holy lands have become deserted places. All the churches, temples and mosques have at present reduced to just mere buildings, having no worshippers to visit them. There are no cars, buses, trains or flights. Almost all countries have declared a lock down. Who knows how many are trapped in different countries, craving to just reach back to their houses? Who knows how many days we will have to stay locked up in our homes?

Where did all that you achieved go? Where is all your power? People showed great courage in waging wars against nations consisting of large armies and strong men. They feared least to bomb nations and destroy innocent souls. And now, where did all that guts vanish to? It is just a small virus and it has conquered the whole earth.

But we know when to stand together. Till date we did not bother about the real hygiene. But now we learnt how important hygiene is. Till date we wished for more holidays. But now we know how sitting at home has nothing special other than to long for this vacation to end. Till date we did not know how caged animals feel. But now we crave to be freed from this cage.

While some people are enjoying their quarantine and making good use of it, there is still a crowd who can’t make up to their everyday meal. But thanks to our government! They are doing their best. The government has given out certain orders which if each one of us follow, then can be called as saviours of mankind. Only we can stop this spreading! Only we can break the chain! Until a vaccine or medicine is found, we are the superheroes. In this crucial time we have to stay with our government. As I wrote in the beginning, let us hope that all this will end one day. Surely it will end and everything will be back to normal. But let us promise ourselves that the oneness we humans had with each other during the war with the virus, the time we spent with our families, the “no war” times between countries will still continue even after the this pandemic.

Dear humans, just think-did we really need this Corona to come together, to care for each other?

Anyways, thanks to Corona for bringing us together, for giving us quality time to spend with our families, for giving us a chance to reconnect with our old friends, for making us realize that even those with power and money are just mere humans and that if it can happen to the weakest person of the society, it can happen to the strongest one also. Thank you Corona for making us understand that at last only love and care prevails and not money or power.

But dear Corona, it is still a war! A war without weapons! As humans we still live a life of hope. And keeping in mind all that you taught us, we will do our best to survive.
