Strengthening Unity in FOMAA: Dr. Madhu Nambiar Candidate for General Secretary 2024-26

With twelve regions spanning the American continent, the Federation of Malayalee Associations of Americas (FOMAA) remains a vibrant community that serves American Malayalees and mainstream American life. One of the main objectives of FOMAA is to organize and coordinate social, cultural, charitable, and educational activities at national and international levels to benefit its members and mankind. The rich tapestry of cultures, traditions, activities, and perspectives enriches the foundation of our community, FOMAA. With the geographically distributed twelve regions, the diversity of FOMAA is the cornerstone of its strength, unity, and success.

Regional activities, which demonstrate remarkable strength and resilience in their contributions to FOMAA growth, are at the forefront of FOMAA's success. All the regions serve as pillars of support, fostering a sense of camaraderie and driving forward initiatives that benefit members across the nation, worldwide, and humanity.

However, it's important to recognize that not all regions within FOMAA are equal. While some regions with a larger number of member associations have an advantage and thrive, other areas with fewer member associations experience disadvantages, face unique challenges, and require inclusion and opportunities to attain their full potential. Regions with fewer member associations need encouraging efforts to enhance their participation and engagement to flourish.

As a candidate for the General Secretary position of FOMAA 2024-26, during the meet the candidate’s program at the Central region, I have shared the vision of strengthening FOMAA by organizing National and International events at different regions or combination of regions based on their dominance to better serve FOMAA families. I believe that by leveraging each region's unique strengths and contributions, we can maximize the collective impact of our FOMAA and empower all regions to thrive.

Every type of diversity is vital in FOMAA. Diversity ensures representation and the voices and perspectives of all regions and member associations are heard and valued in FOMAA. By embracing diversity, FOMAA can better represent the needs and interests of its vast members across different regions. Diversity in FOMAA will foster a culture of inclusivity where all members feel welcomed, respected, and empowered to contribute. It promotes a sense of belonging and unity, strengthening the bonds that tie the FOMAA community together.
Similarly, diverse backgrounds and experiences from different regions breed innovation and creativity. By bringing together individuals from different regions with varied perspectives and skills, FOMAA can harness its members' collective knowledge to drive innovation and find novel solutions to complex challenges.

In its ongoing commitment to fostering unity and collaboration, FOMAA can explore innovative strategies to enhance unity across its diverse members and regions. Along with the traditional leadership structures of the executive committee, regional vice presidents, and National Committee members, FOMAA has a rich network of twelve standing committees and subcommittees dedicated to addressing various facets of FOMAA activities and community service. FOMAA forums like Women’s, Youth, and Sports & Games are constituted at the regional levels and effectively function. These standing committees and subcommittees serve as vital platforms for engaging members, fostering dialogue, and driving initiatives that resonate with the diverse needs and interests of the Malayalee community.

FOMAA unity can be improved through cross-collaboration. By encouraging collaboration and communication between different standing committees, FOMAA can leverage its team's collective expertise and resources to address challenges and pursue common goals. For example, along with various regions, the Women's Forum, Youth Forum, and Juniors Affairs could collaborate on initiatives aimed at empowering children in the community, as women's lives revolve around children and family.

Ensuring that all standing committees and subcommittees are inclusive, representative of different regions, and diverse voices in the FOMAA community is essential. By actively seeking input from members across the regions, FOMAA can promote inclusivity and ensure everyone feels valued and heard. Standing committees and subcommittees provide valuable opportunities to engage with the broader FOMAA community and foster connections beyond regional boundaries. By organizing events, programs, and initiatives that appeal to a wide range of community interests, FOMAA can strengthen its ties with regions and members and enrich the community.

National committees, standing committees, and subcommittees serve as incubators for leadership development, providing diverse regional members with opportunities to take on leadership roles, hone their skills, and contribute to the organization's success. By nurturing talent and empowering emerging leaders from different regions, FOMAA can build a robust pipeline of future leaders committed to promoting unity and collaboration.

My commitment to fostering diversity, collaboration, inclusivity, and strategic planning will ensure that every FOMAA region receives the encouragement and resources needed to excel in National and regional interest activities. I am dedicated to championing the interests of all regions and advancing the mission of FOMAA to the best of my abilities. With your support, I am confident that together, we can build a stronger, more inclusive, and united FOMAA community for the welfare of American Malayalees and accomplish its mission.
